Interview of Global President of KH and my article on 'Multicultural Organization'

I was thrilled to facilitate the interview of the global president of KH and also contribute the article on Multicultural Organization in the January 2009 issue of Global CEO.

Knowing Dr. Ma'en Al Qatamin first hand as the perfect rare blend of an academician cum entrepreneur, it was an eye-opener of sorts for me to facilitate in the interview process of the president along with the editorial team of Global CEO. His insights on knowledge transfer, management training, management consultancy, business model consisting of brick and click drove me crazy. To put it in a nut shell it was something I would treasure for a long time to come mainly because seeing a corporate president work from close quarters and then facilitate in his interview is something which is a prized possession for any management author/interviewer.
The same issue also has my article on multicultural organization, where I have highlighted the unique feature of KH, as far as multiculture is concerned. Honestly speaking, it’s Dr. Ma'en and his better half, Feda, director, business development who had sown the seed of a dynamic and vibrant organization in the form of KH.
Organizations catering to global customers has to understand and imbibe the aspect of multiculturalism within the fabric of the company.KH over the years had an open outlook, which enabled people from different ethnicity, having varied cultures, eating habits, dress sense confluence together in line with that of the organizational requirements. Sound very easy...but extremely difficult to put into perspective. Hats off to the management and staff of KH!
The multicultural model adopted by KH can very well be leveraged by organizations across sectors and geographies. However, the model cannot be implemented in toto, fine adjustments or subtle customization is called for.
Know more from me. In fact I am willing to work on organizations which are interested to build up a multicultural working environment, irrespective of the size of the organisation. My peer consultants and management faculty friends can collaborate with me and I would be too happy for the symbiotic learning through this project.

Making management caselets for e-courses/e-training

Although I have been writing management and business caselets and case studies for quite sometime, I realized the difference in making caselets/case studies for an electronic learning environment. The conventional way of writing a case meant for classroom discussion for the students of business/management and for executive development programs have more or less the same style with minor alterations inserted keeping in mind the target audience. The recent experience I had while making cases for electronic learning needs more than presenting the case with the right blend of domain know-how. The add-ons which are required are the special treatment given by instructional designers, to give a unique look and feel, apart from the lanuguage review. The minor subtleities required for presenting the characters and the surrounding keeping in mind the global audience is also something the author has to take care of. Once the instructional strategies are written, the visualizer does the necessary correction to make it visually correct and attractive.I should be candid in admitting that making a caselet/case study calls for additional skill sets, like that of a instructional designer, a visualizer, as the caselet/case need to be self-explanatory, where the learner is into self paced learning, rather than the one in a typical classroom set up. These learing tools meant for an e-learning environment can also be leveraged while adopting the conventional training methodologies.One major difference however, is that the cases meant for classroom discussion or for executive education are presented in a more complex manner than that of e-learning caselet. The sole reason for this difference is the presence and absence of trainer in the two forms of training.

Recessionary times......offers opportunity

Recession or the slowdown witnessed by the Indian economy should be leveraged by India Inc., so that organizations come out stronger and is able to grow once the tide turns favour of the companies.The same happened after the great depression and even the small blips the world witnessed post 9/11, SARS, ASEAN financial crisis.Companies are into a cost cutting spree, however organizations has to continue grooming employees and also look for greener pastures, once the sky is cleared of the dark clouds.Many successful start-ups which are considered global behemoths today, kicked off their operations albeit at the planning stage, when they were looking down the barrel(read recessionary times).
